Changes in the operations for moving the focus area position

[Focus Standard] function

After updating the camera system software, the [Standard] function, available for assigning to a key in the Custom Key Settings, will be replaced with [Focus Standard].
The operation for moving the focus area position is different between the [Focus Standard] and [Standard] functions when [Focus Area] is set to [Zone], [Flexible Spot] or [Expand Flexible Spot]*.

* ILCE-7M2 is not equipped with [Expand Flexible Spot].

Once you update the system software, you cannot revert it. Read and understand the contents in this page before performing the update.

Custom Key Settings Standard Focus Standard
Operation for moving the focus area position Press the button to which [Standard] is assigned (Fig.1). Press the button to which [Focus Standard] is assigned (Fig.2).
Press the up/down/left/right side of the control wheel or turn the front/rear dials to move the focus area position. Press the up/down/left/right side of the control wheel to move the focus area position. The front/rear dials cannot be used to move the focus area position.
The display returns to the normal after shooting. To move the focus area position again, press the button to which [Standard] is assigned. After shooting, the focus area position can still be moved until the button to which [Focus Standard] is assigned is pressed.

  1. Front dial
  2. Rear dial
  3. Control wheel
    (incl. up/down/left/right and rotation)
  4. Center button
  5. Delete button

When changing the focus area position with the [Focus Standard] function, the following operations are also different from those of the [Standard] function:

  1. The functions assigned to the following buttons using Custom Key Settings will be disabled.
    Center buttton of the control wheel, Up/down/left/right of the control wheel, Control wheel, Delete button

    * To enable the functions assigned to these buttons, press the button to which [Focus Standard] is assigned. The focus area position will be fixed to the most recently configured position.

  2. The front/rear dials cannot be used for moving the focus area position. (Shutter speed and aperture will change instead)

    * If you want to use the front/rear dials to move the focus area position, use the key to which the [Focus Settings] function is assigned in the Custom Key Settings. When using the [Focus Settings] function, the operation for moving the focus area position remains the same after updating the camera system software.
