Continuous Shooting

When an E-mount lens is attached to the camera , the continuous shooting speed and availability of autofocus tracking varies depending on shooting conditions such as shutter type, focus mode and the attached lens. Please see the tables below.
* The continuous shooting speeds when shooting with the electronic shutter are default setting values.

*1:
When the aperture value is greater than F22, the focus does not track the subjects.
*2:
The continuous shooting speed differs depending on the attached lens.
*4:
The focus does not track the subjects when the SEL16F28 lens is attached.
*8:
  • When the aperture value is greater than F22, the focus does not track the subjects.
  • Depending on the attached lens, the continuous shooting speed differs when the camera [Aperture Drive in AF] is set to [Focus Priority], in combination with the [Priority Set in AF-C] settings values.
    • When [Aperture Drive in AF] is set to [Focus Priority] and [Priority Set in AF-C] is set to [Release]:
When the aperture value is greater than F22, the continuous shooting speed slows down, but the focus will track the subject.
    • When [Aperture Drive in AF] is set to [Focus Priority] and [Priority Set in AF-C] is set to [AF] or [Balanced Emphasis]:
When the aperture value is greater than F13, the continuous shooting speed slows down, but the focus will track the subject.
    See here for compatible lenses.
*9:
When shooting in uncompressed RAW or lossless compressed RAW, the maximum speed is 20 images/second.

AF tracking during continuous shooting can be improved by updating the lens system software to the latest version.
See here for compatible lenses.

With the exception of the SEL16F28 lens, lenses other than the compatible ones listed above are capable of continuously shooting 15 images per second at maximum in AF-C Mode.

See here for compatible lenses.

Continuously shooting 30 images per second at maximum while autofocus is tracking

Even when the camera is configured with the example settings below, it is still possible to continuously shoot 30 images per second at the maximum as long as the camera is attached with a lens that supports continuous shooting of 30 images per second at the maximum.

Camera Settings Example

Hint

The continuous shooting speed may become slower depending on conditions such as the surrounding brightness.* However, the continuous shooting speed can be maintained by setting [Priority Set in AF-C] to [Release].

*
This effect tends to occur when the minimum aperture value is not small (dark) or when a teleconverter lens is attached.
