ILCE-9 Continuous Shooting

When an E-mount lens is attached to the camera (system software is Ver. 5.00 or later) , the continuous shooting speed and availability of autofocus tracking varies depending on shooting conditions such as shutter type, focus mode and the attached lens. Please see the tables below.

When the aperture value is greater than F16, the focus does not track the subjects.

The focus does not track the subjects when the SEL16F28 lens is attached.

  • When [Aperture Drive in AF] is set to [Focus Priority] and [Priority Set in AF-C] is set to [Release]:
    When the aperture value is greater than F16, the continuous shooting speed will be 10 images per second at maximum, and the focus will track the subject.
  • When [Aperture Drive in AF] is set to [Focus Priority] and [Priority Set in AF-C] is set to [Focus Priority] or [Balanced Emphasis]:
    When the aperture value is greater than F11, the continuous shooting speed will be 10 images per second at maximum, and the focus will track the subject.

Compatible lenses (As of Feb. 27, 2019)

Attaching a converter (SEL14TC/SEL20TC) has no effect on continuous shooting speed or availability of autofocus tracking.

AF tracking during continuous shooting can be improved by updating the lens system software to the latest version. 

With the exception of the SEL16F28 lens, lenses other than the compatible ones listed above are capable of continuously shooting 15 images per second at maximum in AF-C Mode.

Even when the camera is configured with the example settings below, it is still possible to continuously shoot 20 images per second at the maximum as long as the camera is attached with a lens that supports continuous shooting of 20 images per second at the maximum.

The number of shots available for continuous shooting can be reduced by a number of factors, including the subject, camera settings (image size and ISO sensitivity, high ISO noise reduction, use of lens compensation (distortion compensation)), and the recording media used.
