LA-EA1 firmware upgrade (Mac OS)
  • When performing the firmware upgrade, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FV70, NP-FV100 (sold separately) or the AC adaptor AC-PW10AM.
  • Do not remove the battery or AC adaptor during the upgrade; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.
  • Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.
1.Download the upgrade file
Click on one of the files below (LA-EA1V2_Update1011a.dmg) to begin download.
Please save the downloaded file onto the Desktop of your computer (recommended).

2.Start up Firmware Updater
  1. Double-click the downloaded file [LA-EA1V2_Update1011a.dmg].
    Do not connect the camera yet at this point.
  2. Double-click the [LA-EA1V2_Update1011a.dmg] icon which appears on the Desktop.
  3. Double-click the [FirmwareUpdater] icon.
  4. To load a kernel extension, the message prompts you to allow the application to make changes. Type the password for the administrative account. (Figure 2-1)

3.Connect the camera to the computer
Remove the memory card from the camera before following the procedure below.
  1. Attach the mount adaptor and the A-mount lens to the camera, then turn on the camera.
  2. Connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable.

    Note When the camera is connected to the computer, the LCD screen of the camera turns off. Please proceed to the next step.
  3. Click [Next] on Firmware Updater. Figure 3 appears on Firmware Updater, and Figure 4 appears on the LCD screen of the camera.

    Note From now on, never turn off the camera until the firmware upgrade is completed.

4.Check if the upgrade is required
  1. After confirming the screens on Figures 3 and 4, click [Next]. The current version and the version after the upgrade appear on the lower left part of the screen. (Figure 5)
  2. After confirming [Current version] is [Ver.1], click [Next].
    Note If [Current version] is [Ver.2], the upgrade is not required. According to the message, stop the USB connection and click [Finish].
    Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack or the AC adaptor, and then turn on the camera again.

5.Reset the camera
  1. The screen below appears.

  2. Press the center of the control wheel to execute.

    Note This operation will turn off the screen. Please proceed to the next step.

6.Start the upgrade
  1. After resetting, reconnection of the camera is verified, and the screen on Figure 9 appears.
  2. Click [Run] to transfer the upgrade firmware data.
    The progress bar appears while transferring (approximately 10 seconds).

    Note Never turn off the camera nor disconnect the USB cable while upgrading.
  3. When the transfer is completed, the screen on Figure 10 appears.
    Click [Finish] and disconnect the USB cable.

  4. The updating procedure will start, and Figure 11 will be displayed.
    The progress bar appears while upgrading.

7.Complete the upgrade
When the upgrade is completed, the screen on Figure 12 appears.

Note Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack or the AC adaptor, and then turn on the camera again.

8.Check the firmware version
Follow the instruction below to confirm the firmware version is Ver.02.

Select [Menu] - [Setup] - [Version] on the camera.
The firmware version is displayed (Figure 13).
