When I try to export media files to the camera, the error message [An unknown error occurred.] is displayed.
This error message is displayed when the media files you want to export are damaged. In that case, execute [Update Database] from the [Tools] menu before exporting the files.

When I try to export media files, the error message [The data exceeds the free space in the camera's internal memory. Reduce the number of media files to be exported.] is displayed.
The camera's internal memory capacity, or the upper limit of the number of media files (40000), has been exceeded. Reduce the number of media files to be exported, or delete unnecessary files from the camera.

I cannot send e-mails from the PMB (Picture Motion Browser).
Please check if the selected file is not RAW data. You cannot attach RAW data file to an e-mail.
Also, check if MAPI is enabled in your e-mail software. (For details on MAPI, refer to the manual or help of your e-mail software.)

Media files exported from PMB (Picture Motion Browser) cannot be played back properly on the camera
Media files may be played back by changing the image size to VGA or HDTV when exporting media files.

Unknown errors may occur while the videos are edited.
Due to the memory installed in your computer, unknown errors may occur while video files are edited.
Take the following steps to increase the virtual memory.

For Windows(R) XP:

  1. Select [My Computer] - [Control Panel] - [System] in this order.
  2. Click the [Advanced] tab, and click [Settings] in the [Performance] frame.
  3. Click the [Advanced] tab, and check the [Total paging file size for all drives:] part in the [Virtual memory] frame.
  4. Click [Change], and enter values in the [Initial size] part.
  5. Click [Set], and click [OK].

For Windows Vista:

  1. Select [Computer] - [Control Panel] - [System and Maintenance] - [System] in this order.
    * For Classic view, select [Computer] - [Control Panel] - [System] in this order.
  2. Click the [Advanced system settings], and click [Settings] in the [Performance] frame.
  3. Click the [Advanced] tab, and check the [Total paging file size for all drives:] part in the [Virtual memory] frame.
  4. Click [Change], enter values in the [Initial size] part.
    Click [Set] and click [OK].
    * Remove the check of [Automatically manage paging file size for all drives].

The message [Importing stopped because there is not enough free hard disk space to import the media files.] is shown, and still images and videos cannot be imported.
The drive that is set for the still images and video media files to be imported (default is C:Drive) does not have enough free space. Increase the free space in the drive to import to.

I cannot upload files to the network services.
This may occur when the date and time setting of the computer is incorrect.
Set the date and time of the computer correctly.

The Expand Videos function is not executed.
Videos need analyzing in advance in order for you to use the Expand Videos function. Select [Tools] - [Analyze All Content] to analyze all videos, or right-click each video and select [Analyze Media Files].

The images recorded on a Memory Stick Duo with other camera cannot be imported.
The image recorded on a Memory Stick Duo with other camera cannot be automatically imported.
Please import media files with the steps below.
  1. Click [File] - [Import Media Files].
  2. Select the source to import from [Digital Still Camera/Memory Stick (DCF Format)], then click [OK].

The images recorded on a Memory Stick Duo with the camcorder cannot be imported when I insert the Memory Stick Duo to this camera to import them.
The image recorded on a Memory Stick Duo with the camcorder cannot be automatically imported. Please import media files with the steps below.
  1. Click [File] - [Import Media Files].
  2. Select the source to import from [Handycam Utility], then click [OK].
* The PMB supplied to the camcorder requires being installed to your computer.

PMB (Picture Motion Browser) does not work properly.
If free codecs or codec packs are installed in the computer, the following symptoms may occur.
  • Videos cannot be converted to WMV videos
  • Videos cannot be edited
  • Videos cannot be played back
  • Thumbnails for some file formats are displayed as
  • OS automatically shuts down
  • Videos cannot be imported
  • Video analysis fails
  • The Runtime error occurs when launching PMB
These symptoms can be corrected by uninstalling the free codecs or codec packs.

AVCHD images recorded by a camcorder cannot be imported into the computer with PMB (Picture Motion Browser).
As PMB (Picture Motion Browser) supplied to your camcorder does not support the AVCHD format, the images cannot be imported.
