Lens Breathing Compensation

Lens breathing compensation is a function that corrects for the phenomenon in which the angle of view changes according to the focusing distance during movie recording. Using breathing compensation information recorded in videos shot with a camera and lens that support the function, you can apply lens breathing compensation in Master Cut (Beta).

  • For information on lens breathing compensation settings, refer to the “Lens Compensation” item in your camera’s Help Guide.
  • To apply lens breathing, you must use one of the camera and lens combinations listed below, and the movie file must have been shot using the setting listed under “Limitations.” (If the movie file is not compatible, an indication to this effect will appear in Master Cut (Beta).)
  • ILCE-1

    • This feature is available after upgrading the camera firmware to Ver. 2.00 or later.
  • ILCE-9M3

    • It is not possible to apply lens breathing compensation using metadata when shooting with the auto framing or framing stabilizer function.
  • ILCE-7SM3

    • This feature is available after upgrading the camera firmware to Ver. 3.00 or later.
  • ILCE-7RM5

    • To use the breathing compensation function using metadata, set the [Distortion Comp.] in the lens compensation to [Auto] on the camera body before shooting.
  • ILCE-7CR

    • It is not possible to apply lens breathing compensation using metadata when shooting with the auto framing or framing stabilizer function.
  • ILCE-7CM2

    • It is not possible to apply lens breathing compensation using metadata when shooting with the auto framing or framing stabilizer function.
  • ILCE-7M4

    • This feature is available after upgrading the camera firmware to Ver. 3.00 or later.
  • ILCE-6700

    • It is not possible to apply lens breathing compensation using metadata when shooting with the auto framing or framing stabilizer function.
  • ZV-E1

    • To use the breathing compensation function using metadata, set the [Distortion Comp.] in the lens compensation to [Auto] on the camera body before shooting.
    • It is not possible to apply lens breathing compensation using metadata when shooting with the auto framing or framing stabilizer function.
  • ZV-E10M2

    • When shooting using the cinematic vlog function, the lens breathing compensation function employing metadata is not available.
