Sending images from Cyber-shot to an Android smartphone

Images taken by Cyber-shot equipped with the Wi-Fi function can be transferred to smartphones or tablets.

  • Screen design and operation may be different depending on your camera and smartphone.
  • Operations are the same for both smartphones and tablets.

Only the movies recorded in the MP4 format can be transferred.
The AVCHD-format movie cannot be sent to a smartphone.

Sending images using the Wi-Fi function

Step 1 Press the Playback button on the camera and display an image you want to send.
Step 2 Select [MENU] → [Send to Smartphone] → [Select on This Device].
Step 3 Select the images you want to send.
Step 4 The SSID and the password are displayed. Now the camera is ready to be connected by a smartphone.
Step 5 Start PlayMemories Mobile on the smartphone, and select the SSID (DIRECT-xxxx:DSC-xxx) displayed on the camera.
Step 6 Enter the password displayed on the camera, and select [OK].
  • This procedure is required the first time only.
Step 7 The image transfer starts.
Step 8 The transferred images will be stored in the PlayMemories Mobile folder.
  • To view the images, select [Gallery] → [PlayMemories Mobile] folder.
Note:
  • If you press [Share] in the PlayMemories Mobile screen, you can upload the images via another application installed in the smartphone.
  • The size of the images to be transferred can be changed from [Settings] on PlayMemories Mobile.

Sending images using the one-touch functions (NFC)

Note:

  • The operation described here is available only for smartphones and tablets operating on Android OS Ver.4.0 or later and equipped with the one-touch functions (NFC = Near Field Communication).
  • The one-touch functions cannot be used if your smartphone/tablet is in sleep mode or screen locking. Cancel them before use.

Step 1 Turn on [NFC] on the smartphone.
  • The procedures are different depending on the smartphone (e.g. [Settings] → [Wireless & networks] → [NFC]). Refer to the manual for your smartphone.
  • (N mark) will appear when the one-touch functions (NFC) are enabled. It may not appear depending on the smartphone you use.
Step 2 Press the Playback button and display an image you want to send.
  • If you want to send the displayed image only, skip the steps 3 - 5 and go on from the step 6.
Step 3 Select [MENU] → [Send to Smartphone] → [Select on This Device].
Step 4 Select the images you want to send.
Step 5 The SSID and the password are displayed. Now the camera is ready to be connected by a smartphone.
Step 6 Touch (N mark) on the bottom of the camera with (N mark) on the smartphone for one or two seconds until PlayMemories Mobile starts.
  • If there is no N mark on the smartphone, refer to the manual of the smartphone for the touch area.
  • Make sure that N mark is displayed in the LCD screen on the camera.
  • If PlayMemories Mobile does not start, shorten the distance between both N marks. If it still does not start, change the position of the smartphone by sliding or rotating it, or separate the devices for more than 10 seconds and try again.
Step 7 The image transfer starts.
  • Images are transferred via Wi-Fi connection.
Step 8 The transferred images will be stored in the PlayMemories Mobile folder.
  • To view the images, select [Gallery] → [PlayMemories Mobile] folder.
Note:
