This utility is only for use with the Sony® HDR-AS50. Do not install this utility with any other model.
WARNING!!: This system software update and any changes incurred by it are permanent. It is not possible to return to a previous system software version after updating this system software. By continuing this update process and downloading and updating this system software, you acknowledge that you are aware and understand that this update cannot be reversed.
IMPORTANT: Don't allow the computer to enter Sleep (Standby) mode during the update process. To change these settings, refer to your computer manual or consult the manufacturer.
This update process requires the following items for proper updating:
A computer with:
- Mac OS X v.10.10 – 10.11 / macOS 10.12 - 10.13
  IMPORTANT :
  For macOS 10.13, please ensure the DriverLoader_1013 has been installed before update your software. < Download DriverLoader_1013 >
- Hard disk space: 600MB or more
- RAM: 512MB or more
- A USB port
- Please close all other application software before updating the firmware.
- Prevent your computer from sleeping beforehand.
Device power supply:

The device which carried out full charge.
- Fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-BX1. The update can be performed only when the remaining battery level is (three marks) or more. We recommend that you use a fully charged battery.
- Do not remove the battery during the update; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.
USB cable supplied with the camera:
- Use only the USB cable supplied with the camera.
  IMPORTANT: Update functionality is not guaranteed with any other USB cable.
To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
Disable the sleep function in advance.

1.: Determine if Your Device Needs the Update

Follow the instruction below to check the system software version. This update is only for HDR-AS50 cameras that currently have a system software Version 1.00. If your camera system software version is already Version 1.01, this update is not necessary.

Check the system software version

Press the UP button or DOWN button to select [MENU] - [SETUP] - [Ver.], then press the REC/ENTER button.

2.: Prepare the Device for the System Software Update

1.: When performing the system software update, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-BX1.
2.: Do not remove the battery or USB cable during the update; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.
3.: Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.
4.: Prevent your computer from sleeping beforehand.
5.: Do not be connected to other apparatuses except your computer.

3.: Download and Update the System Software

IMPORTANT :

1.: Download the update file
Download the Update file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference). Please save the downloaded file onto the Desktop of your computer (recommended).

Sony Electronics Inc. ("Sony") furnishes the program and accompanying online documentation and, with its licensors, licenses their use to you, all as provided in this Agreement.

LICENSE

Under this Agreement, Sony and it licensors grant you a limited license to use the program and accompanying online documentation for use only with the Sony products and not for resale.

YOU AGREE NOT TO MODIFY OR DISASSEMBLE THE PROGRAM OR THE ACCOMPANYING ONLINE DOCUMENTATION, IN WHOLE OR IN PART, EXCEPT AS EXPRESSLY PROVIDED FOR IN THIS AGREEMENT OR UPON SONY'S PRIOR WRITTEN APPROVAL. IN ADDITION, YOU AGREE NOT TO TRANSFER, LICENSE OR DISCLOSE THE PROGRAM, THE ACCOMPANYING ONLINE DOCUMENTATION OR ANY PROGRAM YOU DEVELOP FROM THEM, IN WHOLE OR IN PART, TO ANY THIRD PARTY EXCEPT UPON SONY'S PRIOR WRITTEN APPROVAL. FINALLY, YOU AGREE NOT TO USE THE PROGRAM OR MATERIAL AND THE ACCOMPANYING DOCUMENTATION, IN WHOLE OR IN PART FOR ANY PURPOSE OTHER THAN AS OUTLINED IN THAT DOCUMENTATION.

This license is effective until terminated. You may terminate it at any time by giving Sony written notice to that effect. Upon termination, you will destroy the program and accompanying online documentation and all copies you have made of them. In addition, upon termination you will have no recourse against Sony or its licensors for your inability to use the program or the accompanying documentation.

EXCLUSIONS OF WARRANTIES

THE PROGRAM AND ACCOMPANYING ONLINE DOCUMENTATION ARE FURNISHED TO YOU "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. SONY AND ITS LICENSORS DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE PROGRAM OR THE ACCOMPANYING ONLINE DOCUMENTATION WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS OR THAT THE OPERATION OF THE PROGRAM WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR FREE. SONY AND ITS LICENSORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE AND YOU WILL HAVE NO REMEDY FOR DAMAGES FOR ANY CLAIM OF ANY KIND WHATSOEVER CONCERNING YOUR USE OF THE PROGRAM OR THE ACCOMPANYING ONLINE DOCUMENTATION, REGARDLESS OF LEGAL THEORY, AND WHETHER ARISING IN TORT OR CONTRACT. RESTRICTIONS ON EXPORT OF ENCRYPTION TECHNOLOGY

This software may contain encryption technology. The customer acknowledges that any export of software containing encryption technology from the United States or subsequent re-export of such software by a person located outside of the United States requires a license or other authorization from the U.S. Department of Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security. The Customer further acknowledges that software containing encryption technology and acquired from Sony Electronics is not intended for use by a foreign government end-user. By accepting this license agreement, the customer agrees to abide by all relevant U.S. export laws and regulations in the purchase and use of the Sony Electronics product being acquired, including, but not limited to those regulations relating to the export control of cryptographic items.

MISCELLANEOUS

Some jurisdictions may not allow exclusions or limitations of incidental or consequential damages, or allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, so the above limitations or exclusions may not apply to you.

You acknowledge that as between you, Sony and its licensors, Sony and its licensors own all right, title and interest, including but not limited to, all copyrights, trade secret and other intellectual property in and to the programs and accompanying online documentation. You further acknowledge that Sony's licensors are direct and intended third party beneficiaries of this Agreement and may enforce it directly against you. If you are a governmental entity, your use, duplication or disclosure of the program and accompanying documentation are subject to the restrictions set forth in subparagraphs (c)(1) and (c)(2) of the Commercial Computer Software clause at FAR 52.227 19, and subparagraph (c)(i)(ii) of the Rights in Technical Data and Computer Software clause at DOD FAR 252.227-7013 and any comparable federal, state or local law or regulation and, for this purpose, the manufacturer is Sony Electronics Inc. located at the address referred to below. You may not export the program and accompanying online documentation in violation of the United States Export Control Act. This Agreement will be governed by the laws of the United States and of the State of New York. If any part of this Agreement is held invalid or unenforceable, the other parts will remain valid.

Save this Agreement to your hard drive or by printing it out for future reference.

Start up System Software Updater

ⅰ.: Double-click the downloaded file [Update_HDRAS50V101.dmg]. Do not connect the camera yet at this point.
ⅱ.: [Update_HDRAS50V101] is expanded.
ⅲ.: Double-click the icon.
ⅳ.: To load a kernel extension, the message prompts you to allow the application to make changes. Type the password for the administrative account.
ⅴ.: System Software Updater starts up.

Connect the camera to the computer
Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.

ⅰ.: Connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable and turn on the power of the camera.
ⅱ.: After confirming the above, click [Next] on System Software Updater. The below screen appears on System Software Updater.

Note:

From now on, never turn off the camera until the software update is completed.

4.

Check if the updating is required

ⅰ.

The current version and the version after the update appear on the lower left part of the screen.

Upgrade is required

Note:

If the below screen appears, the upgrade is not required. According to the message, stop the USB connection and click [Finish]. Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack, and then turn on the camera again.

After confirming [Current version] is [Ver.1.00], click [Next].

The camera automatically reset

The following screen appears.

6.

Start the update

After automatically resetting, the below screen appears and the update starts. The progress bar appears while updating (approximately 15 minutes).

Note:

Never turn off the camera nor disconnect the USB cable while updating.

7.

Complete the update

After finishing the update, the PC screen will be changed to the below screen. Also the camera automatically reboots, which may take a few minutes. Please wait until the same screen on the camera LCD appears as one just before starting the software update. When the screen appears, push [Finish] button and disconnect the USB cable.

8.

Check the system software version

Press the UP button or DOWN button to select [MENU] - [SETUP] - [Ver.], then press the REC/ENTER button.
