What is remote play?
Remote play is a function that lets devices such as PlayStation®Vita or PlayStation®Portable display the PlayStation®3 screens and perform operations remotely, either via wireless LAN or via Internet.
For details, go to the PlayStation®3 XMB™ (XrossMediaBar) and select [Network] > [Online Instruction Manuals], or refer to the "PlayStation®3 User's Guide".
To use remote play, make sure you have updated to the most recent version of PlayStation®Vita or PlayStation®Portable system software.
If you are using a 20GB model PlayStation®3, you must use remote play via an access point. For details, go to the PlayStation®3 XMB™ (XrossMediaBar) and select [Network] > [Online Instruction Manuals], or refer to the "PlayStation®3 User's Guide".
You must have a Sony Entertainment Network account before you can use remote play via Internet.

Setting up remote play with PlayStation®Vita
When using remote play for the first time, you must register (pair) your PlayStation®Vita with the PlayStation®3. When using a device that has already been paired, there is no need to pair it again.
Pairing procedure
- Turn on the PlayStation®Vita and launch [Remote Play].
- In the PlayStation®3 XMB™ (XrossMediaBar), select [Settings] > [Remote Play Settings] > [Register Device] > [PS Vita].
- On the PlayStation®Vita, enter the number displayed in step 2 above into [Remote Play].
- Follow the directions on the PlayStation®3 and PlayStation®Vita screens to complete the pairing process.
Follow the procedure below to activate remote play.
Remote play procedure
- In the PlayStation®3 XMB™ (XrossMediaBar), select [Network] > [Remote Play] to put it in connection standby mode.
- In [Remote Play] on the PlayStation®Vita, select [Connect via Private Network] to connect via your home network, or select [Connect via Internet] to connect via Internet.
- Follow the on-screen directions to connect to the PlayStation®3.
- When the connection is established, the PlayStation®3 screen is displayed on the PlayStation®Vita.
- Launch PlayMemories Studio™ from the PlayStation®Vita.
- To quit remote play, press the PS button (HOME button) on the PlayStation®Vita, then peel the remote play LiveArea™.
Remote play cannot be used with a 3G network.
Remote play with PlayStation®Portable
When using remote play for the first time, you must register (pair) your PlayStation®Portable with the PlayStation®3. When using a device that has already been paired, there is no need to pair it again.
Pairing procedure
- Connect the PlayStation®Portable to the PlayStation®3 using a USB cable.
- In the PlayStation®Portable XMB™ (XrossMediaBar), select [Settings] > [USB Connection].
- In the PlayStation®3 XMB™ (XrossMediaBar), select [Settings] > [Remote Play Settings] > [Register Device].
- Follow the directions on the PlayStation®3 screen to complete the pairing process.
Follow the procedure below to activate remote play. When using remote play, you do not have to connect the PlayStation®Portable to the PlayStation®3 via USB.
Remote play procedure
- In the PlayStation®3 XMB™ (XrossMediaBar), select [Network] > [Remote Play] to put it in connection standby mode.
- To connect via your home network, go to the PlayStation®Portable XMB™ (XrossMediaBar) and select [Network] > [Remote Play] > [Connect via Private Network]. To connect via the Internet, go to the PlayStation®Portable XMB™ (XrossMediaBar) and select [Network] > [Remote Play] > [Connect via Internet].
- Follow the on-screen directions to connect to the PlayStation®3.
- When the connection is established, the PlayStation®3 screen is displayed on the PlayStation®Portable.
- Launch PlayMemories Studio™
from the PlayStation®Portable.
- To quit remote play, press the PS button (HOME button) on the PlayStation®Portable, then select [Quit Remote Play].
