Smart Remote Control for Cyber-shot and an Android smartphone

Your smartphone and tablet can be used as a remote controller for Cyber-shot to record photos and movies.

  • Screen design and operation may be different depending on your camera and smartphone.
  • Operations are the same for both smartphones and tablets.

Smart Remote Control via Wi-Fi connection

Step 1 Turn on the camera.
Step 2 Select [MENU] → [Ctrl with Smartphone].
Step 3 The SSID and the password are displayed. Now the camera is ready to be connected by a smartphone.
Step 4 Start PlayMemories Mobile on the smartphone, and select the SSID (DIRECT-xxxx:DSC-xxx) displayed on the camera.
Step 5 Enter the password displayed on the camera, and select [OK].
  • This procedure is required the first time only.
Step 6 The smartphone can be used as a remote controller. Operate the smartphone as follows.
  • Command signals are transmitted via Wi-Fi connection.

Parts and Controls for shooting

A: To switch between photos and movies (Does not appear if movie is not available or not selectable with a smartphone)

D: To view images (Quick Viewer)

  • Self-timer: Select [Off], [2sec] or [10sec].
  • Flash: Select [Off] or [Auto].
  • Review Image: Settings to display image after shooting. Select [On], [2sec], or [Off].
  • Save Options: Settings to save review image to smartphone after shooting. Select [On] or [Off]. When [Off], image may not be saved anywhere if memory card is not inserted in shooting device.
  • Saving Destination Setting: Select a saving destination for copied contents on PlayMemories Mobile. Check or uncheck on [Save to an external memory if available.]

Note:
  • The size of an image saved on the smartphone will be [2M].
  • Movies will not be saved on the smartphone.
  • The buttons on the camera do not work while operating with a smartphone.

Smart Remote Control via one-touch functions (NFC)

Note:

  • The operation described here is available only with a smartphone or a tablet working on Android OS Ver.4.0 or later and equipped with the one-touch functions (NFC = Near Field Communication)
  • The one-touch functions cannot be used if your smartphone/tablet is in sleep mode or screen locking. Cancel them before use.

Step 1 Turn on [NFC] on the smartphone.
  • The procedures are different depending on the smartphone (e.g. [Settings] → [Wireless & networks] → [NFC]). Refer to the manual for your smartphone.
  • (N mark) will appear when the one-touch functions (NFC) are enabled. It may not appear depending on the smartphone you use.
Step 2 Turn on the camera.
Step 3 Touch (N mark) on the bottom of the camera with (N mark) on the smartphone for one or two seconds until PlayMemories Mobile starts.
  • If there is no N mark on the smartphone, refer to the manual of the smartphone for the touch area.
  • Make sure that N mark is displayed in the LCD screen on the camera.
  • If PlayMemories Mobile does not start, shorten the distance between both N marks. If it still does not start, change the position of the smartphone by sliding or rotating it, or separate the devices for more than 10 seconds and try again.
Step 4 The smartphone can be used as a remote controller. Operate the smartphone as follows.
  • Command signals are transmitted via Wi-Fi connection.
