What kind of application is Filmy™?

Filmy™ is a movie viewer that allows you to conveniently enjoy AVCHD video files recorded by a Sony digital camcorder or digital camera.

 

What is required for using Filmy™?

The following are required for using Filmy™.

  • PlayStation®3 System Software Ver.3.55 or later
  • PlayStation®Network account (Internet connection required)

To play movies, one of the following devices (in addition to the above environment) is required.

  • Handycam® (Sony digital camcorder) compatible with the AVCHD standard *
  • Cyber-shot™ (Sony digital camera) compatible with the AVCHD standard
  •  (Sony interchangeable lens digital camera) compatible with the AVCHD standard
  • USB mass storage device (containing AVCHD video files copied by Direct Copy function of Handycam®)

* Models released after 2008 except disc type Handycam®

 

What is Filmy™ trial version?

Filmy™ trial version, allows you to try all the features of the retail version. Trial time is 15 minutes after starting the software. After 15 minutes, all features will shut down. You can enjoy Filmy™ with no time limit when you purchase the unlock key from the PlayStation®Store.


To use Filmy™ trial version, download it from the PlayStation®Store, and install it. Follow the procedure below. If you are using this feature for the first time, you may be required to sign up for PlayStation®Network. For details, see PlayStation®3 User's Guide (Online Instruction Manuals).

  1. Connect PlayStation®3 to the network.
  2. Access the PlayStation®Store.
  3. Download Filmy™.
  4. Install(Filmy™) under(Game) in the XMB™ (XrossMediaBar) menu. *

* When [Download in Background] is not pressed, Filmy™ will be installed automatically after downloading.


<Launch of distribution service of PlayMemories Studio™>
Distribution of a new application, PlayMemories Studio™*, at PlayStation®Store commenced on 27th March 2012. The application enables you to play back or edit images and movies.
Distribution of Filmy™ ended as of 27th March 2012, and support for Filmy™ ended in late September 2012.
* There is a paid version, and complimentary trial version (all features, free for 30 days).

 

Can I play movies on XMB™ (XrossMediaBar) with Filmy™?

You cannot play them with Filmy™.

 

How can I play movies with Filmy™?

Connect a Sony digital camcorder/camera (containing recorded videos), or a USB mass storage device (containing AVCHD video files copied by Direct Copy function of Handycam®) to PlayStation®3, using a USB cable.

 

Can I edit movies with Filmy™?

You can use the viewing feature only with Filmy™.

 

Can I play movies that can be played back with Filmy™ on XMB™ (XrossMediaBar)?

Yes you can. Follow the procedure below (Except for sample movies included in Filmy™).

  1. Select(USB Device) under(Video) in the XMB™ (XrossMediaBar) menu, and press thebutton.
  2. Select [Display All] from the options menu, and press thebutton.
  3. Select a video file under [AVCHD] > [BDMV] > [STREAM], and press thebutton.
 

Can I view images with Filmy™?

You cannot view them with Filmy™.

 

How can I purchase the Filmy™ unlock key?

Download the unlock key from the PlayStation®Store, and install it. Follow the procedure below.

  1. Access the PlayStation®Store.
  2. Download the unlock key.
  3. Install the unlock key under(Game) in the XMB™ (XrossMediaBar) menu.

To purchase the unlock key, you must add funds to the wallet. For details, see PlayStation®3 User's Guide (Online Instruction Manuals).
