Recommended default settings

When shooting typical moving subjects using the ILCE-9M3, the following settings are recommended by default.

Focus mode

AF-C (Continuous AF):
When set to the AF-C (Continuous AF) mode, the camera continues to focus while the shutter button is pressed and held halfway down.

[Priority Set in AF-C]

[Balanced Emphasis]:
Regarding whether to release the shutter even if the subject is not in focus, shoots with a balanced emphasis on both focusing and shutter release.

[AF Lvl for Crossing]

[3(Standard)]:
When set to the [5(Responsive)] side, the camera focuses on subjects at different shooting distances one after another.
When set to the [1(Locked on)] side, the camera continues to focus on the desired subject even if another object crosses in front of the desired subject.

[AF Trk for Spd Chng]

[Standard]:
Set [Stable] if you want to keep stable focus on a motionless subject or a subject that moves at a nearly constant speed.
Set [Responsive] if you want to keep the focus on a subject whose moving speed changes significantly, such as one that suddenly starts or stops moving.
We recommend that you first set it to [Standard].

[Focus Area]

[Tracking: Spot M]:
Set [Tracking: Spot M], and then move the focusing frame to the desired point on the screen and focus on a small subject in a narrow area. When the shutter button is pressed and held halfway down, the camera tracks the subject from the selected autofocus area. We recommend that you first set it to the standard M size.

Other settings

[Wide]:
Focuses on a subject covering the whole range of the screen automatically. When you press the shutter button halfway down in the still image shooting mode, a green frame is displayed around the area that is in focus.
[Zone]:
Select a zone on the monitor on which to focus, and the product will automatically select a focus area.
[Center Fix]:
Focuses automatically on a subject in the center of the image. Use it together with the focus-lock function to create the composition you want.
[Spot: XL]/[Spot: L]/[Spot: M]/[Spot: S]/[Spot: XS]:
Allows you to set the shape and size of the focusing area.
[Expand Spot]:
If the product cannot focus on a single selected point, it uses focus points around the [Spot] as a secondary priority area for focusing.
[Custom]:
Allows you to set the shape and size of the focusing area.

[Switch V/H AF Area]

[AF Point Only]:
Switches the position of the focusing frame according to the orientation of the camera (horizontal/vertical). The [Focus Area] is fixed.

Other settings

[Off]:
Does not switch the [Focus Area] or the position of the focusing frame based on the orientation of the camera (horizontal/vertical).
[AF Point + AF Area]:
Switches both the [Focus Area] and the position of the focusing frame based on the orientation of the camera (horizontal/vertical).

[Subject Recog in AF]

[On]:
If you set the subject in advance, the camera will automatically recognize the subject and can focus on the eyes, etc. when shooting images.
Sets whether to recognize and focus on subjects in the focus area when autofocusing.
Also, when [Focus Area] is [Tracking], by combining with [Subject Recog in AF], you can maintain the focus on a moving subject.

[Sbj Recog Frm Disp.]

[On]:
Sets whether to display a subject recognition frame when a subject is recognized.
When the camera recognizes a subject and determines that the subject is a target for auto-focusing, the white subject-recognition frame appears.
The recognition frame is automatically prioritized and displayed where a more precise recognition target (such as eyes) is recognized.
