Using zoom (other than optical zoom)
Zooming options other than optical zoom can bring farther subjects into view. Choose from the following zoom types.
- [Optical zoom only]
- Limits the zoom range to the optical zoom. You can use the Smart Zoom function if you set [JPEG Image Size] to [M], [S] or [VGA].
- Not available when shooting movies.
- [ClearImage Zoom]
- Zooms by enlarging the zoomed portion using image processing with minimal loss of quality.
- [Digital Zoom]
- The image processing of this zooming method causes some loss of image quality.

Zoom
Enlarge images using the W/T (zoom) lever when shooting.
When you move the W/T (zoom) lever to the T side, the camera will zoom in, and when you move the lever to the W side, the camera will zoom out. Move the lever slowly for slower zoom. Move it faster for faster zoom.
Hint
- When you select other than [Optical zoom only] for [Zoom Setting], you can exceed the zoom range of the optical zoom to zoom images.
- You can assign the zoom function to the control ring. You can also zoom in/out to an angle of view corresponding to how far the control ring has been rotated, and zoom in/out at certain angle steps.
